PHASE 3 - DEFINE & PRIORITIZE KEY PROJECTS
Phase 3 of the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) focused on identifying and prioritizing specific transportation projects for implementation over the next 25 years. Through public surveys, community events, and stakeholder input, the MPO gathered feedback on which projects should receive priority consideration for funding.
PUBLIC OUTREACH RESULTS
As part of Phase 3, the MPO conducted multiple outreach activities: an online Project Priorities Survey, a Learn About Local Priorities event at The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, and a Project Priorities Forum held in the spring of 2025 at State College of Florida in Bradenton.
The online survey was completed by 42 respondents, including residents, transportation professionals, and local government representatives. This detailed survey attracted highly engaged residents and transportation experts committed to the prioritization process. Combined with the stakeholder forum and community events, these activities provided comprehensive input on regional transportation priorities.
COMMUNITY PRIORITIES AND INSIGHTS
Through the survey and public engagement events, clear community preferences emerged for how transportation investments should be prioritized:
Top Project Types Prioritized by the Community:
Pedestrian/Bicycle Improvements
Complete Streets
Roadway Capacity
Safety Improvements
The results revealed strong community support for multimodal transportation options, with pedestrian, bicycle, and Complete Streets improvements representing the top community priorities. This preference aligns with the "Creating a Balanced Future" vision established in Phase 1, emphasizing connectivity options that provide alternatives to driving while enhancing safety and accessibility for all users.
WHAT’S NEXT?
The results of Phase 3 informed the development of the Cost Feasible Plan, which identified which projects can be implemented within available funding over the next 25 years. With all community surveys now complete, the draft 2050 LRTP entered a public comment period, providing one final opportunity for residents to review and provide feedback before the plan's final adoption.
